Confirmation Curriculum: Creation (Week 3)
Last Thursday, we posted the rationale and background for a 15-24 week confirmation curriculum written by Katie Todd, MDiv and MACE student at Union-PSCE, Charlotte. Over the next four weeks, we will share samples from that curriculum so that you can see how she incorporates children’s literature into the session plan. This week’s session, the second of two on creation, uses the book Lily Brown’s Paintings by Angela Johnson.

I know that 30 minutes seems like a long period of time for teenagers and reflection, but when we used this lesson, we had to stop the students at 30 minutes and many asked for more time later to finish. Also, shocking to us, they were practically silent for the entire time they reflected and painted!
Is there a way to view the entire curriculum? I am working on creating a confirmation curriculum for some students with special needs and I love this idea that you came up with. I would love to see more of your ideas.
Robin, Storypath ony has the sessions that Katie Barrett Todd produced for the class. She gives an option for contacting her in these replies and you might contact her directly about the fleshing out of the other sessions and how she might distribute those now and in the future.
How or when will the entire confirmation curriculum be available? I really enjoy the lessons that have already been posted and would love to see more.
Mary, thank you for the comment. The ones that are posted are the ones that are in the most “formal” curriculum format of the others. The rest as of now are just outlines. I’m working to formalize the format for them as well, so that I can share them and hopefully see about publishing somewhere when done…here or elsewhere.
Please contact me at ktbodd (at) gmail (dot) com for more information and I’ll share as they are finished.
Thank you for the comments. They have been so much fun to use with the Confirmation class this year!
