Year 3: December 4, 2016
Preaching Text: Joel 2:12-13, 28-29
Return by Aaron Becker
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: In these few verses we see an invitation to repentance and restoration of relationship. Perhaps this text also serves to remind us that it is never too late to return to God and live into the people God is calling and gifting us to be, open to the pouring out of God’s Spirits, to visions, prophecies, and dreams. The third book of a wordless trilogy, Return invites readers on a visual journey into a land of fantasy by a lonely girl and her previously distracted father. Through their adventures, they return to one another, and their relationship is restored. With this text and story we are called to return to right relationships with God, with one another, and with ourselves. Invite your congregation to share experiences of repentance and restoration of relationship; how does the experience of returning open us up to be filled by God’s Spirit and live more fully into the people God created us to be?
