(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: “When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.” Whenever I read this text, I wonder what the disciples must have been feeling. Awe, trust, fear, hopefulness, worry? Transition is hard for most people, especially children. The idea of leaving everything you know and love behind to do something new can be terrifying. Little Bird experiences this struggle when it’s time to leave his familiar home and fly south for the first time. Little Bird and the disciples are both following someone they trust, which may be the only thing that makes the journey possible for them. This text and story invite us to consider what it might feel like and look like to leave everything behind and follow Jesus.
