Preaching Text: 1 John 1:5-2:2
When God Made Light by Matthew Paul Turner
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: If God is light, to be in fellowship with God is to live in the light. When God Made Light explores God’s relationship to light and the way God’s light fills our lives. Young children hear that God has filled them with light, and everywhere they go they can drive darkness away. Turner’s expressions of a light-filled life are primarily about the joys of playing in nature and with family. Through the text we are invited to further explore what it means to live in light versus darkness. How might a light-filled life be the embodiment of justice, kindness, and love? As you read this text and story, wonder together with the children of your church about what a light-filled life might look like.
