Radiant Child: The Story of Young Artist Jean-Michel Basquiat by Javaka Steptoe

(Written for ages 4-8)

Comment: These Pentecost texts touch on identity- who we are as Spirit-filled children of God. On Pentecost, we can celebrate that the Spirit gives us abilities to more fully live into our identities as children of God, and into the life God is calling us to live.  Radiant Child is a beautiful and true portrayal of a boy’s identity as an artist, and the way this identity shaped his childhood and young adulthood. As you reads these texts alongside this story, wonder with your congregants about the abilities the Spirit fills each of them with and the ways these abilities help them serve God in the world.
