Acts 17:1-9 and 1 Thessalonians 1:1-10
The Way I Act by Steve Metzger
(Written for ages 5-10)
Comment: Paul writes to the church in Thessalonica, “The word of the Lord has sounded forth from you … so that we have no need to speak about it.” He praises the peoples’ ability to live out their faith in a way that doesn’t require words or explanations. We can talk with children about how we spread the good news of Jesus in our everyday actions. Metzger’s book is designed to give children concrete examples of how to live in various ways – being responsible, curious, trustworthy, compassionate. The book underscores the fact that what we do (“The Way I Act”) tells the story of who we are. Paul is grateful for the “work of faith and labor of love” his friends have done. You could invite children to brainstorm concrete actions you could perform in your church, home, or community so that people will know your faith in Jesus.
