Preaching Text: Exodus 16:1-18
Hungry Bird by Jeremy Tankard
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: When you’re wandering in the wilderness, you’re sure to be hungry and when food is in short supply, hunger can quickly turn to hanger. Bird is on a journey through the woods with his friends when he becomes “hangry” and doesn’t have food. He is hesitant to try the unfamiliar options his friends have brought along. Like Bird, the Israelites complained, worried, and had to try something different to satisfy their intense hunger. Sometimes our provisions come in different and unexpected ways. As you reflect upon this text and story, consider how hanger, worry, faith, and trust might play into your community’s experiences of receiving daily bread.
