Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: God warns the humans not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, but with prompting from the crafty snake, they do it anyway. As soon as they’ve eaten the fruit, they are aware of their mistake and their reality changes. In Rubin’s tale, a boy is warned not to feed salsa to the dragons at his taco party. The boy becomes aware of his mistake a second too late and his reality changes when his house is destroyed by dragon fire. Both the text and story remind us that failing to heed a warning, whether on purpose or on accident, can lead to serious consequences. As you reflect upon this text and story, wonder together with the children of your church about the reasons our lives include rules and warnings.
The Narrative Lectionary Links writer for Year 3 is Union Presbyterian Seminary alumna Noell Rathbun-Cook. Noell serves as Minister of Children and Youth Discipleship at Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, VA.

I’ve been blessed with this resource for my children’s sermon on many occasions thank you very much. How can we make sure we can get the Narrative Lectionary stories going forward? I’ve just made the switch this summer. Thank you for thinking about us.
