(Written for ages 4-8)

Comment: In her commentary on this text, Professor Juliana Claassens highlights that Jacob’s dream “attests to the ability of an alternative reality to break into a world of fear, terror, and loneliness… as the dreamer is encompassed by God’s presence that has a transformative effect in the waking world.” Melody has a similar experience in her dreams, which transport this lonely, new kid in the neighborhood into a magical world of friendship. Like Jacob, Melody experiences the promises of her dream in the waking world and her life is completely altered. This text and story invite us to consider how our own waking or sleeping experiences of God have transformed our lives.
