Year B: May 10, 2015
First Reading: Acts 10:44-48
Wolfie the Bunny by Ame Dyckman
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: In his commentary on this passage, Richard Jensen describes this text as the heart of a larger story, “told in Acts 10:1-11:18, that tells of the Spirit-infused breaking down of barriers between Jews and Gentiles.” (http://www.workingpreacher.
Second Reading: 1 John 5:1-6
Hug Machine by Scott Campbell
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: “For the love of God is this, that we obey his commandments.” This text, along with the gospel reading invite us to reflect on God’s commandment to love one another. We are called to follow God’s commandment throughout our daily living. The Hug Machine gives children a fantastic visual of what a day filled to the brim with loving others might look like. The story ends with the understanding that being loved energizes us for even more love. In the book, love is embodied through hugs. Wonder together with the children of your church about additional ways we can show love.
Gospel Reading: John 15:9-17
The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend by Dan Santat
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: “…abide in his love… so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete.” In her commentary, Carolyn Brown suggests focusing on stories of friendship to explore this text with young children. (http://www.
