The NRSV Student Bible gives the reader a brief introduction to each book to provide an overview of the contents. Short descriptions labeled as “Insights” are found throughout this bible and provide the reader with an article that contains concise background information about the passage that is being read. The editors have selected one hundred people of the bible to profile in this edition to give the reader additional insight. This bible also provides shorter “Highlights” which help to clarify confusing verses or point out something that may be overlooked by the reader.
This student bible also contains a variety of reference tools for the reader to use. A “Where to Find It” section lists scripture references for such things as the parables of Jesus and well known events in the bible. A glossary of non-biblical people and terms used in the “Insights” and “Highlights” as well as a subject guide are also included as reference tools. This bible is user friendly and will give the average reader the tools that s/he needs to read and study the bible. The NRSV version is preferred because its translation of scripture is closest to the original languages of the bible.
