Preaching Text: Luke 18:31-19:10
Lion vs. Rabbit by Alex Latimer
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: In this season of Lent, Zacchaeus’ story is a great one for highlighting repentance and turning one’s life around. People don’t like Zacchaeus, in essence his role as a tax collector gives him the power to bully the people and cheat them out of their money. The animals in Latimer’s story don’t like Lion- he’s mean and his mistreats them all! Through Zacchaeus’ interaction with Jesus and Lion’s interaction with Rabbit (er, all 22 of them) we see a change in their lives for the better. As you reflect upon this text and story, invite your congregants to share their own stories of repentance and turning their lives around.
