Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes by Kimberly & James Dean

(Written for ages 4-8)

Comment: Most of us know from experience what can ruin a party and what can make it great. Bringing this story into the realm of a child’s experience is a little easier when we pair it with the party experience of Pete the Cat. Kids can tell you that a cupcake party without cupcakes will not go well. How will Pete and his friends deal with this dilemma?! Disappearing cupcakes, running out of wine–the experience of scarcity spells disaster for parties. Fortunately, these stories end with the grace of abundance. As you journey through the gospel of John, invite your congregation to experience it in the ways Karoline Lewis suggests, as stories of the Word made flesh that “[show us] what grace tastes like, looks like, smells like, sounds like, feels like.”
