Fourth Sunday after Epiphany
Year 4: January 28, 2018
Preaching Text: John 3:1-21
City Moon by Rachael Cole
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: It is interesting to consider Nicodemus sneaking in the cover of darkness to speak with Jesus when the message of this text ends with: “those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.” Although he’s come in the middle of the night, Nicodemus has sought out the love and wisdom of the light. This text pairs beautifully with a story of light seeking in the darkness. A boy and his mother go on a walk through the city at night, seeking the moon. As they journey he learns about the light of the moon from his Mama. Whether at night or in the light of day, this text and story invite curiosity, wondering, space for questions and the opportunity to learn more about the light of the world, shared with us through God’s great love.
