Preaching Text: Exodus 20:17
Peanut Butter and Jellyfish by Jarrett J. Lrosoczka
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: This verse is tied up in coveting and desire. This type of behavior can present itself in a variety of ways, we may covet a person’s things, job, talents, significant other… there are lots of options. When we come to a place where we covet or desire what someone else has, it affects the way we act as neighbors towards them. Crabby covets Peanut Butter and Jellyfish’s ability to swim and explore the exciting ocean. He wishes he could swim; because he can’t, he makes fun of the way they swim. When disaster strikes, the three learn the value of being good neighbors to one another and Crabby is no longer controlled by his desires. This text and story encourage us to think about what we covet and consider how our desires might negatively affect our relationships.
