Ruth Bader Ginsburg: The Case of R.B.G. vs. Inequality by Jonah Winter
(Written for ages 8+)
Comment: In this text we encounter a discouraged, despondent Elijah on the run from his adversaries and ready to give up his calling. Elijah’s story reminds us that people called to prophetic work often face challenges and road blocks that are meant to stop them in their tracks. Jonah Winter describes a number of such events and injustices that could have halted Ruth Bader Ginsburg in her tracks; yet Ruth overcame these obstacles “until she arrived at the very court that is the symbol of justice in America…[and] has herself become a symbol of justice in America.” This text and story invite us to reflect upon the way God’s still small voice inspires and encourages us to live into our callings, even when obstacles arise.
Thank you to Union Presbyterian Seminary alumna Noell Rathbun for writing the Year 4 Narrative Lectionary Links.
