Rachel: The Story of Rachel Carson by Amy Ehrlich

(Written for ages 6+)

Comment: In his writings on faith and creation care, professor David Rhoads describes humans having dominion over creation as a mandate from God “to take responsibility for the arena of creation… [and] to care for all creation as God does.”  Scientist Rachel Carson’s life epitomized this understanding of humanity’s relationship with, and responsibility to care for creation. Ehrlich describes Carson as a person “who loved the world so much…[and saw] that everything was connected in an intricate web of life.” With these readings we are invited to come alongside God and Carson in seeing the goodness of creation and taking responsibility for its care.
