Walk This World by Jenny Broom
(Written for ages 5-8)
Comment: In Jenny Broom and Lotta Nieminen’s beautiful book, Walk This World, an unnamed character begins a journey from his home and starting walking all around the world. As he walks, he meets new people and see new sights. He gets to see how vast the world is and how much there is to experience. He gets to see all kinds of people on the earth. In today’s passage, Abram starts on a similar journey. The Lord comes to him and says to “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you”. Abram departs with his family, walking to the land of Canaan. The additional element of the Lord’s promise is that through Abram and his journey, “all the families of the earth shall be blessed”. God’s eye is not just on Abram and his family, but on all of the earth and its multitudes of people – the multitudes that the character in Walk This World sees as he travels around the globe. God calls us as individuals, not only for ourselves, but for a larger plan, and for other people to be blessed through us. As we follow the call and participate in God’s promises, let’s walk our world and see God’s people and show them God’s blessings.
