Lectionary Links (NL): September 18, 2016
18th Sunday after Pentecost
Preaching Text: Genesis 15:1-6
There Is a Tribe of Kids by Lane Smith
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: In the midst of Abram’s hopelessness, God responds with the promise that the Abram’s future is bright, filled with as many descendants as there are stars. Like Abram, the boy in Smith’s story is on a journey that will hopefully lead to family. Midway through the book he looks up to the stars and sees constellations shaped like people holding hands. For the boy and Abram, their experience of seeing future family in the stars gives them hope. With this text and story, invite your congregation to consider what stars of hope have helped carry them forward during experiences of uncertainty and hopelessness.
