Percy and TumTum: A Tale of Two Dogs by Jen Hill
(Written for ages 5-9)
Comment: “When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.” Percy and TumTum goes hand in hand with the story of Joseph and his brothers. Percy, a plain jane daschund, is jealous when his family adopts TumTum, a fluff ball of a dog who is adored by every human in town. Readers glimpse Percy’s experiences of jealousy, betrayal, and reconciliation. These very basic feelings and experiences are shared in both stories and by many, if not all, people. Invite your congregation to view the stories from varying perspectives, sharing their own experiences of being like Percy and the brothers, the people of Riveredge Waterwood and Jacob, or TumTum and Joseph.
