Preaching Text: Psalm 100
The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak
(Written for ages 4-8)
Comment: So often we approach worship as a serious, stoic time, but the psalmist remind us that there is a place for overflowing joy in worship. Reverend Beth Sciebienski suggests the psalmist may even be ecouraging laughter within the worshiping community. Much like the narrow approach that worship should be serious, young children often approach books without pictures as serious, and perhaps even boring. Much like the psalmist, Novak helps us to see that overflowing joy and laughter can be found in the places where it is least expected. As you share this text and story with your congregation, encourage them to be open to the experiences of joy and laughter that the Spirit provides.
